Counselling
I offer short and long-term counselling to address a variety of needs including stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, self-esteem, difficult life transitions, and communication difficulties.
What is counselling?
Counselling is a process. It’s a conversation we have about your life, what’s working, what’s not working, how you’re feeling, what you’re thinking about and how you want things to be different. It’s about exploring, creating awareness, and learning new ways to deal with challenges that arise in your life.
In the process of providing counselling, I ask questions, make observations, reflect back what you’ve told me, and provide information, tools, and skill development.
My goal as your counsellor is to promote self-understanding as well as encourage and empower you to find your strengths in order to reach your goals and make the changes that you’d like to make.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Everything you tell me is strictly confidential. No information is disclosed to anyone else without your permission, unless, and in the exceptional circumstances that it is required by a court of law.
-
The length of time and frequency of counselling depends on each individual. Sessions take place weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending in your needs. Often times many people can benefit from as few as three to six sessions. Others may wish to work with a counsellor on an ongoing basis for longer periods of time. In any case, you are the one who gets to determine how much or little you want or need.
-
Many people struggle with the decision to come to counselling. The cultural stigma, that only weak or sick people go to therapy, is a hurdle which many people struggle to clear. It takes courage to ask for help and seek out a counsellor. Once you do, however, you are a step ahead in that you have recognized that you are struggling and are willing to seek some help in order for your life and circumstances to improve. It takes a lot of courage to reach out for help, especially about an area of your life or something about yourself that you are not feeling good about.
We ask for help and seek professional expertise in other areas such as our physical health, fitness, finances, and our career choices, so why not our mental and emotional health? Rather than a sign of weakness, seeing a counsellor is a sign of strength and an indication that you are motivated to make changes and to find ways to function better in your life.
